Tomcat is not a full-powered Java EE app server - therefore, I cannot deploy and run a EJB-based application on Tomcat.

So far so good. But I'm able to deploy and run JSF applications on Tomcat.The Java servlet specification Tomcat implements includes a number of JSP-specific functionalities, including syntax elements that designate JSPs to be compiled upon the launch of a web application.

These elements should be configured on a per-application basis in "WEB-INF/". Here's an example configuration.
